چکیده

Abstract Background Research is needed to delineate the relative and combined effects of different antibiotic administration manure management practices in either amplifying or attenuating potential for resistance spread. Here, we carried out a comprehensive parallel examination small-scale (> 55 °C × 3 days) static turned composting manures from dairy beef cattle collected during standard (cephapirin/pirlimycin sulfamethazine/chlortetracycline/tylosin, respectively), versus untreated cattle, on “resistomes” (total genes (ARGs) determined via shotgun metagenomic sequencing), bacterial microbiota, indicator ARGs enumerated quantitative polymerase chain reaction. To gain insight into role thermophilic phase, compost was also externally heated > 15 days. Results Progression with time succession corresponding microbiota overarching driver resistome composition (ANOSIM; R = 0.424, p 0.001, respectively) all composts at small-scale. Reduction abundance (16S rRNA gene normalized) total finished (day 42) day 0 noted across conditions 0.728, 0.001), except when heated. Sul 1, int I1, beta-lactam ARGs, plasmid-associated increased as compared initial condition. External heating more effectively reduced certain clinically relevant ( bla OXA , CARB ), fecal coliforms, risk scores, which take account putative pathogen annotations. When administration, taxonomic distinct according nonmetric multidimensional analysis tet (W) decayed faster condition slower Conclusions This comprehensive, integrated study revealed that had dominant effect composition, while little difference function collecting administration. (W), suggested some spread, but increase persistence other indicators were concerning. indicate guidelines intended reduction do not necessarily provide barrier their mobility prior land application additional mitigation measures should be considered.

Effects of Copper Addition on Copper Resistance, Antibiotic Resistance Genes, and intl1 during Swine Manure Composting

Copper is one of the most abundant heavy metals present in swine manure. In this study, a laboratory-scale aerobic composting system was amended with Cu at three levels (0, 200, and 2000 mg kg-1, i.e., control, Cu200, and Cu2000 treatments, respectively) to determine its effect on the fate of copper resistance genes [copper resistance genes (CRGs): pcoA, cusA, copA, and tcrB], antibiotic resist...

Antibiotic resistance profiles of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates containing virulence genes

Background: A most common opportunistic pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is present in both humans and animals and responsible for various nosocomial infections and healthcare settings related infections. Different virulence genes like; oprL (membrane lipoprotein L) and toxA (exotoxin A i.e. ETA) in P. aeruginosa, assist in its pathogenicity, toxicity and contribute to high antibiotic resistanc...

ARDB—Antibiotic Resistance Genes Database

The treatment of infections is increasingly compromised by the ability of bacteria to develop resistance to antibiotics through mutations or through the acquisition of resistance genes. Antibiotic resistance genes also have the potential to be used for bio-terror purposes through genetically modified organisms. In order to facilitate the identification and characterization of these genes, we ha...

Evolution and ecology of antibiotic resistance genes.

A new perspective on the topic of antibiotic resistance is beginning to emerge based on a broader evolutionary and ecological understanding rather than from the traditional boundaries of clinical research of antibiotic-resistant bacterial pathogens. Phylogenetic insights into the evolution and diversity of several antibiotic resistance genes suggest that at least some of these genes have a long...
